This reminds me of when the Crash Test Dummies, on their fourth album, decided to change genres from alternative music to funk. You’ll probably not be surprised to find that John Lennon makes the pivot with much more success. What MAY surprise you is that, at the height of ELO’s success in the late 1970s, Jeff Lynne tried some funk with the songs “Doin’ That Crazy Thing” and “Goin’ Down to Rio.” Proof that’s not every Jeff Lynne song is a good song. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wfIIX4vMfdc
